Ms. Hitchcock was raised an evangelical Christian which she states formed her core beliefs about G-d and transcendence. She subsequently relinquished the Christian path and gravitates towards Eastern Mysticism and is moved by Islam.
Her work deconstructs sacred texts by cutting individual letters from one holy book and reassembles and attaches them onto another holy book. This work takes letters cut from an old German Bible pasting them onto pages torn from another Bible. She refers to the labor intensive part of her work as a meditation practice as well as an exploration of the various forms of devotion. "The Koran is transformed into the Bible, the Bible into the Bhagavad Gita...discouraging a literal reading of the text...merging one passage with another."
