Gallery and artist's notes--
In the Omissis series, Marco's thoughts about the written text coincide with his exploration of abstraction as a language, a reduction of visual information to the gesture, the mark, the dot, the line. “Omissis” (an editing term related to the word “omission ”) refers to the process whereby classified or sensitive information is blocked or cleansed. Without putting too fine a point on it, Marco is working with a multi-part or recombinant form of composition in which redaction and reduction intersect.
Each portrait sheet (each work is made up of 4 separate pieces of paper) is imagined, though the monochrome palette and standardized format is intended to suggest the documentation of an ID photo. The remaining three sheets suggest a dossier whose information has been censored, an individual whose identity has been accumulated and then erased. The red lines suggest information that is more vital, more sensitive, and more urgent. There is, in fact, no hidden text inscribed below the horizontal lines. The individual and communicative content, therefore, reverts back to the artist–his hand, his pulse, his temperament is what we ‘read’ in every line.
