The video exhibits 6 separate images set up like a grid. In each section, you see a real-time process where the artist paints a simple human portrait onto a piece of stone using a brush and water. These portraits are painted outdoors and as a result, quickly begin to dry and disappear. Because you see all 6 portrait stones simultaneously, you watch as one is being created while the remaining 5 gradually fade away. The result is 6 different portraits all in different stages. The video runs just over nine minutes so that you have time to see each portrait painted and dissolve.
This is a unique piece. The artist created numerous individual video pieces that each depicted one of the portraits included here that were all played on separate monitors and displayed together in one room. It was a rather large piece and because he was convinced to create a piece that was more individual collector rather than museum friendly, he made this one work that combines all six portraits on one monitor. Most video works are made as multiples, however this is one-in-a-series-of-one which makes it rather special.
