While I have listed this as a photograph, it seems to defy categorization. We of the gelatin/silver-print world often forget that it was simply a printing process and followed after several other methods. Most contemporary photographers never see a darkroom and begin with digital files and generally reproduce them using an ink-jet printer or something of that family.
But that's ink on paper, the most general definition of a "print". Photographs generally escape that description. This Levinthal work uses acrylic paint shot from jets. Sounds just like an airbrush painting, but the original image was guided by a photo scanning device and not the artist's hand.
So, I have placed it here. Levinthal is considered a photographer and in fact, this series is the only one to use the Scanamural process. I'll grant that it's not a traditional painting but hate to use the term 'print' as this is a unique piece, not one in an edition.
