Sheila Hicks, in her over 50-year career, has become one of the most notable American artists as she has expanded the boundaries of art, design, craft and architecture. A student of Josef Albers at Yale, she began her career as a painter focusing on the use of color. After being awarded a Fulbright scholarship to paint in Chile, she was introduced to the indigenous weavers and architectural sites in the Andes. She was included in this year's (2015) Whitney Biennale.
