This work, and others by the artist, deconstruct fabric objects of common usage either contemporary or from the past. A palliasse is a heavy linen pouch which was stuffed with straw and used as transportable mattresses for migrant workers during the California gold rush. She removes the 'flesh' and retains the 'bones' by cutting out the bulk of the fabric leaving only the seams.
