Brousseau is a self-taught artist who grew up in Maine. Her works are equal parts tragedy and child-like humor. Abused by her father as a very young girl, she buried her memories through much of her life. She married and had a daughter and in her 40's, began making works drawing on her past. She created characters that appear throughout her works, often children fighting against 'evil' adults. There are also animal warriors depicted as protectors. Her works combine both the feelings that she buried and released but also the success of her escape.

The works begin as line drawing created in a style much like automatic drawings where they begin and end in one session, never preconceived and perhaps depicting a past event or feeling. Afterwards, she returns to them and begins the process of adding color using marking pens. The coloration is fine and delicate taking on a mosaic-like feeling that I hope shows up well in the image of the dragon. She continues to work on drawings but is also an active 'maker', knitter, gardener and dog breeder.
